Facts About Durban Beaches

Durban is South Africa's sub-tropical beach getaway. It is all about the beach here, constantly drawing visitors from even Johannesburg all the time, it being the closest seaport from there. The natural setting has made it a hub attracting a culturally diverse populace from all over the world in fact.

A sea of humanity engulfs the beaches making them busy with water front activities. The city centre is right beside the long, golden beach. Beachcombers, strollers, swimmers, surfers and sea divers all find it exhilarating to be on the beach.

Durban is home to South Africa's only surfing museum with the most surf-friendly waves in the world. There are also two yacht clubs along with the Bartle Arts Trust, a cultural center that encourages local visual art and music.

Durban Bay is one of the best natural harbors on the African coastline. Its narrow opening is protected by a huge headland called the Bluff, on one side and, on the other lies the Point. Close by is the uShaka Marine World - a state of the art aquarium housing sharks in predator tanks.
